MTN Foundation–MUSON Scholarship 2026/2027: Fully Funded

Introduction

The MTN Foundation–MUSON Music Scholars Programme 2026/2027 is offering talented young Nigerians the opportunity to receive professional music education at the MUSON School of Music in Lagos.

The programme is a partnership between the MTN Foundation and the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON). Since 2006, MTN Foundation has supported talented young Nigerians through fully funded scholarships to study for an internationally recognised Diploma in Music. The 2026/2027 admission is for the 21st cohort of the programme.

The Diploma in Music is a full-time two-year programme providing advanced training for young musicians who want to build professional careers in music or continue into further music studies.

The MTN Foundation scholarship provides support for:

The programme also provides students with professional music training at MUSON, opportunities to develop their practical and theoretical abilities, and exposure to the musical environment at the MUSON School of Music.

The MUSON Diploma School has produced graduates who have gone on to further studies and careers in Nigeria, South Africa, Europe and the United States.

Since 2006, the MTN Foundation has fully funded and supported the development of 484 music scholars through the MTNF MUSON scholarship programme.

Eligibility

The MTN MUSON Music Scholars Programme is open to talented young Nigerians who want to improve their skills and pursue professional training in music.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum academic qualification of General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
  • Have credits in five subjects, including English Language.
  • The five credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings.
  • Have a Grade 5 or higher pass certificate in Music Practical and Theory from the MUSON School of Music or another music examining body recognised by the MUSON School.
  • Recognised music examination bodies include MUSON, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and Trinity College London.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old.

Music Training and Diploma Majors

The two-year full-time Diploma programme offers advanced training in the following areas:

  • Piano
  • Organ
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Double Bass
  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Percussion
  • Classical Guitar
  • Voice.

Students also receive broader musical training alongside their major. The programme includes a minor instrument from a different instrumental family for two semesters and mandatory choir membership. String majors are required to join the orchestra, while wind and percussion majors participate in the band. Students from other areas may also audition for these ensembles.

The MUSON School of Music is federally accredited to award Diplomas in Music, with the qualification being comparable to diplomas awarded by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in the United Kingdom.

The application deadline for the MTN Foundation–MUSON Music Scholars Programme 2026/2027 is:

Applications opened on 20 July 2026.

Applicants should submit their applications before the deadline because late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Applicants who meet the admission requirements will be shortlisted and notified by Wednesday, 26 August 2026 for the next stage of the selection process.
