About the Scholarship Program:
Hundred-fifty years ago, in 1863, Dr J. Gamgee convened a first International Veterinary Congress. This initiative grew into the World Veterinary Association (WVA) today. The WVA unites and represents the global veterinary profession. It is the umbrella organization for National Veterinary. Associations and International associations of veterinarians working in different areas of veterinary medicine. The WVA continues the ambition of Dr Gamgee to bring veterinarians from all over the world together, to share experiences, to exchange ideas and to join forces for the promotion and development of veterinary medicine. The WVA defends the interest of the health and welfare of animals and people as well as the interest of its member organisations and their members.The World Veterinary Association is recognized and respected as the trusted and influential voice of global veterinary medicine and it is on a mission to provide global leadership for the veterinary profession and promote animal health and welfare and public health, through advocacy, education, and partnership.
The WVA and MSD Animal Health are delighted to announce the 2025 Veterinary Student Scholarship Program which will attribute 40 scholarships to veterinary students around the globe to improve their academic experience.
WVA and MSD continue their successful collaboration and launch the 2025 Veterinary Student Scholarship Program for a slot of 40 scholarships of US$ 5000 (of a total of $200,000) to be granted to selected students from countries in the regions of Latin America, Africa, North Africa/Middle East and Asia/Oceania.

Eligibility Criteria of the Scholarship Program:
Interested applicants for this scholarship program MUST fulfill the following requirements:
- Applicants MUST be a citizen or a student in one of the countries under the grant coverage.
- Applicants MUST not have been a prior recipient of any WVA/MSD Animal Health scholarship grants.
- Applicants MUST be currently matriculated to the academic year 2025-2026 at a recognised school of veterinary medicine.
- Applicants MUST have completed all first-year exams.
- Applicants MUST be registered in the second or third-year year of your school veterinary programme (or later years if the program is longer than 4 years).
- Applicants MUST not be a first or last-year student.
- Applicants MUST be allowed to receive international funds under the SWIFT system at a bank account registered to your  name.
- Only applications in English are accepted; applications in other languages will not be considered.

Q: I won this scholarship in the past, can I apply again?
A: Unfortunately, if you already won the WVA/MSD Veterinary Student Scholarship in the past, you cannot apply for a second scholarship program.
Q: I’m a veterinary student at my fifth year of study, can I apply for this scholarship?
A: That depends on the length of the veterinary study program at your university, for example:
- If the programme is of 4 years, you should be registered this year to the 2nd or 3rd year of study.
- If the programme is of 5 years, you should be registered to your 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study.
- If the programme is of 6 years, you should be registered to your 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th year of study.
- If the veterinary program in your university is 3 + 4 years (e.g. preclinical), the last four years are considered as the veterinary program.
Q: My faculty dean is not available to write a recommendation letter, what can I do?
A: Please include in the application an explanation of why the dean is not available and provide us with a recommendation letter signed by the dean deputy.

Q: I have some photos, videos as well as extra documents that I would like to send, can I join them to the application?
A: Yes, you can. But all the additional documents, photos, and videos shall be added to the application form sent in ONE document in PDF file. Regarding videos, it is recommended to include a link to the video in the application form. Q: I’m a PhD/ Master student, can I apply to this scholarship?
A: Unfortunately, this scholarship program is only for undergraduate veterinary students.
Q: Can all countries apply to this scholarship?
A: Nationals of countries in the regions of Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia/Oceania can apply for the scholarship program.
Please also ensure that you are allowed to receive wired money transfers under the SWIFT system.
Reviews and deliberation:
Applications will be reviewed by a sub group of the WVA Working Group on Veterinary Education. The announcement of the selected students will be done online. Winners’ profile image, name and region will be displayed publicly in the announcements.
Application Deadline:
Interested and eligible applicants for this scholarship program should put in an application on or before the 5th of October, 2025. Early applications are highly encouraged.
