CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF LITERARY COMPETITION.
Yello, the second edition of the Chief of ARMY STAFF LITERARY COMPETITION is out. The Nigerian Army is organising the COAS Literary Competitions 2025 with the:
THEME : “The Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development“.
The scholarship application is opened to students in all levels from the primary school, secondary and up to tertiary institution.
CATEGORIES OF COMPETION.
As mentioned earlier, all categories listed below are allowed and opened to applicants between the ages 5 – 11 years (primary schools),
● 12 – 17 years for secondary schools
● and 18 – 24 years (tertiary institutions) respectively.
The Categories are as follows:
• COAS Essay Competition
• COAS Art Competition
• COAS Poetry Competition
GUIDELINES AND ELIGIBILITY
All entry to the scholarship will be guided by the following:
1. Applications from applicants in primary and secondary schools must be completed, stamped and duly signed by the Head of school. When that is done, it should be uploaded here. For the graduate students, you should submit your application after it has been duly signed and stamped.
2. There would be two levels of assessment. The procedure would consist of two parts: an initial assessment to find the best candidates, and a second online conference with a panel of judges to choose the winners.

3. Any entry that is discovered throughout the screening procedure to be non-original will not be allowed to compete.
4. All entries might be published in journals and periodicals published by NA.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
There are specific requirements for the essays.
COAS Essay Competition
(a) Topics to be coined from the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development).
(b) Length of the essay for primary and secondary schools should not exceed 2000 words while those for tertiary institutions should be between 3000 – 5000 words.
(c) Essay should be the original thoughts of the writer.
(d) Completed essays should be uploaded via the website link
• COAS Art Competition
(1) Art works must have bearing with the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development).
(2) All Art works are limited to only painting and drawing.
(3) The Art work should be submitted with a short caption.
(4) Submitted works must be the original works of the artist and should not have been published.
(5) Entries are to be snapped/scanned and uploaded here not later than 31st March, 2025
• COAS Poetry Competition
(1) All poems should be original.
(2) Poems can belong to any genre but must be related to the theme of the competition.
(3) Poems to contain a maximum of 200 words and must be uploaded here.
(4) All entries must be in English Language.

The winners of the COAS Literary Competitions 2025, will be issued with appropriate certificates and cash prizes as follows:

DEADLINE
Closing date for submission of entries is Monday, 31st March 2025. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to all the winners at a specially organised event. All winners will be duly informed of the date and venue for the presentations of certificates and prizes.
