About the Erasmus Mundus GLOCAL Programme

GLOCAL stands for Global Markets, Local Creativities.

It is a two-year international master’s programme examining how global economic processes interact with local cultures, businesses, creative industries, institutions and communities.

The programme combines historical, economic, political, social and business perspectives to help students understand how globalisation influences different parts of the world.

Students explore subjects such as:

  • Globalisation and the global economy.
  • International business and entrepreneurship.
  • Creative and cultural industries.
  • Economic and social development.
  • Global political economy.
  • Sustainability and institutional change.
  • Innovation and local business ecosystems.
  • International trade and development.
  • Global markets and local cultures.

The programme is taught through lectures, seminars, research activities and opportunities for internships or industrial placements.

Students move between three partner universities during the programme, depending on their selected study track.

The programme is designed to develop graduates who can work in international organisations, businesses, policy institutions, development organisations, research, and other sectors connected to global economic and social change.

Benefits of the Erasmus Mundus GLOCAL Scholarship 2027

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship provides financial support throughout the two-year programme.

1. Full tuition-fee coverage

Successful scholarship recipients do not have to pay tuition fees for the GLOCAL programme.

The scholarship covers the full tuition obligation, including the deposit. A portion is paid through the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, while the remaining amount is covered by the GLOCAL consortium.

Therefore, scholarship recipients are not liable for tuition fees.

2. Monthly living allowance

Recipients receive a monthly subsistence allowance throughout the entire two-year programme.

There are two payment arrangements from which successful applicants can choose.

Option One: Advance payments plus monthly allowance

Under this arrangement, scholars receive three advance payments of €1,000 each to assist with visa, travel and installation costs.

The payments are scheduled as follows:

  • August before the first semester: €1,000 paid into the student’s existing bank account.
  • May at the end of Year 1: €1,000.
  • September at the beginning of Year 2: €1,000.

These three payments are deducted from the overall scholarship award. Consequently, the monthly subsistence allowance is €1,275 per month for the two-year programme.

Option Two: Higher monthly allowance without advance payments

Students who choose this arrangement receive:

  • €1,400 per month for the full two years.

Under this option, there are no separate advance payments for travel or installation costs.

Applicants can indicate their preferred payment arrangement in the pre-arrival Welcome Pack after accepting the scholarship.

3. Full insurance coverage

The scholarship includes full insurance coverage for the duration of the programme.

The insurance benefit is arranged in collaboration with the University of Glasgow.

Students should review the insurance information provided by the university to understand the coverage and applicable arrangements.

4. Optional contribution towards travel and installation costs

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship also provides for an optional contribution towards travel and installation costs.

This support is intended to assist with practical expenses such as:

  • Visa expenses.
  • Residence permits.
  • Temporary accommodation.
  • Other installation-related costs.

The GLOCAL page describes this as an optional contribution. It should not be interpreted as an unconditional promise to reimburse every travel or relocation expense.

The payment arrangements also matter: students choosing the €1,275 monthly option receive the three specified advance payments, while those choosing €1,400 monthly do not receive separate travel/installation advance payments.

5. International study experience

Students study at three universities within the GLOCAL consortium.

Depending on the selected track, the programme includes mobility between locations such as:

  • Glasgow, United Kingdom.
  • Göttingen, Germany.
  • Barcelona, Spain.
  • Uppsala, Sweden.
  • Rotterdam, Netherlands.
  • Kyoto, Japan.
  • Bogotá, Colombia.

This gives students exposure to different academic environments, international research perspectives and cultural experiences.

6. Internship and industry opportunities

The programme provides opportunities for internships and industrial placements.

Students may also benefit from specialist masterclasses, guest lectures and contributions from associate partners and private and public sector employers.

These experiences help connect academic learning with practical professional environments.

7. International academic network

Students become part of an international learning environment involving partner universities, academic staff, researchers and students from different countries.

The programme encourages students to examine global markets and local economies from multiple perspectives.
