Scholarship Details
The HENNGE Global Internship Program (GIP) 2027 offers an opportunity for university students, recent graduates, and early-career software engineers to gain practical engineering experience at HENNGE’s headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
The programme is designed for aspiring software engineers who want to strengthen their technical skills, work with experienced cloud product development engineers, and learn in an international, English-speaking environment. Japanese language proficiency is not required for the Global Internship Program.
Although the internship is unpaid, HENNGE provides a monthly living-expense subsidy, round-trip airfare for eligible international interns, visa guidance and financial assistance, medical insurance for eligible participants, and other benefits.
Applicants can choose between two pathways: Full-Stack Engineering and Front-End Engineering. The internship generally lasts four to six weeks, depending on the pathway and batch, and includes hands-on projects, technical mentorship, and opportunities to learn about cloud infrastructure and DevOps.
Applications are accepted in seasonal batches, and places are limited. Candidates are encouraged to apply early because applications may close once all available positions are filled.
Benefits of the HENNGE Global Internship Program 2027
Successful applicants will receive practical training and financial support to help them participate in the internship in Japan.
1. Monthly living-expense subsidy
HENNGE provides a monthly subsidy intended to cover regular living expenses in Tokyo, including:
- Accommodation.
- Meals.
- Local transportation.
- Other essential living expenses.
The official programme FAQ explains that the subsidy is calculated with reference to typical living costs in Tokyo. The website does not publish a fixed subsidy amount, so applicants should not assume a particular monthly payment.
Interns can choose their own accommodation because housing costs are covered through the subsidy rather than through a specified company-arranged accommodation package.
2. Round-trip airfare
Eligible international interns receive support for round-trip airfare to Japan.
According to HENNGE’s official FAQ, the company provides a budget for purchasing flights and reimburses the cost on the first day of the programme, provided the intern arrives in Japan within seven days of the internship start date.
International airfare is not covered for participants who already reside in Japan.
Applicants should check the current travel arrangements and reimbursement instructions before purchasing tickets.
3. Visa support and financial assistance
HENNGE provides pre-arrival support, visa guidance, and financial assistance for visa-related matters.
Because GIP is an unpaid internship with a subsidy, a working visa is not required for the programme. Applicants from countries that require a visa for short-term entry into Japan will need the appropriate short-term stay visa.
HENNGE assists participants with the visa process. Applicants should still confirm the applicable requirements with the relevant Japanese embassy or consulate.
4. Medical insurance
Medical insurance is provided to interns who do not reside in Japan.
HENNGE states that it arranges coverage through a trusted insurance provider based in Japan. Participants who already live in Japan are not eligible for the programme’s medical insurance benefit.
5. Japanese mobile phone with data
The programme provides a Japanese mobile phone with data, helping international interns stay connected during their stay.
6. Technical training and mentorship
Interns work with experienced engineers in HENNGE’s Cloud Product Development team and receive dedicated mentorship.
The programme focuses on developing strong engineering fundamentals rather than assigning interns routine production work. Participants practise problem-solving, collaboration, technical communication, and explaining their engineering decisions.
Depending on the chosen pathway, training includes web application development, front-end frameworks, back-end APIs, testing, state management, cloud integration, and DevOps practices.
7. Company meals and social opportunities
Participants can also access:
- Get-to-know-you luncheons.
- Regular company meals and social events subsidised by HENNGE.
- Monthly technical sessions where engineers share knowledge and discuss current trends.
- Office facilities and refreshments.
- Staff parties and other social opportunities.
- Japanese cultural events.
8. Potential future employment
The programme forms part of HENNGE’s pre-hiring process. Outstanding participants may receive opportunities to pursue full-time employment with the company.
Applicants interested in building a career in Japan may have an advantage because the programme is intended partly for people considering a future professional career there. Employment is not guaranteed.
Available Internship Pathways
Applicants must select at least one pathway when applying. Each pathway has its own technical focus, requirements, and schedule.
You cannot switch pathways after enrolling.

Internship Location, Duration and Working Hours
The Global Internship Program takes place on-site at HENNGE’s headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
It is not a remote internship. Participants work alongside the company’s engineering team and experience the working environment in Japan.
The programme generally lasts four to six weeks, depending on the pathway and batch. The official FAQ explains that batch start dates are fixed and cannot be freely changed, although the internship may be shortened to no less than four weeks. Applicants should discuss a shorter duration with their interviewer if they pass the screening stage.
The regular working schedule is:
- Days: Monday to Friday.
- Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Japan Standard Time (JST).
Applicants must ensure that these hours do not conflict with their studies or other commitments.
Published 2027 Full-Stack schedule
HENNGE’s published schedule currently lists the following Full-Stack batches:
| Batch | Internship dates |
|---|---|
| Batch 2 | 1 June – 16 July 2027 (7 weeks) |
| Batch 3 | 2 August – 3 September 2027 (5 weeks) |
| Batch 4 | 1 October – 29 October 2027 (5 weeks) |
The schedule may change, and internship slots can close up to four months before a batch begins or earlier if all available positions are filled.
Check the official HENNGE GIP page for the latest schedule, including availability for the Front-End Pathway. Do not assume a batch is still accepting applications just because its dates appear on the schedule.
HENNGE’s Policy on Artificial Intelligence
HENNGE allows the use of AI tools for certain learning activities but does not permit applicants or interns to use AI to generate code for training assignments or solution implementations.
The code submitted must be written by the applicant and reflect their own understanding.
The programme’s guidance permits designated AI services to support learning in non-code-generating ways, such as:
- Clarifying technical concepts.
- Understanding documentation.
- Helping with non-essential tasks, such as understanding command-line options.
Participants must take responsibility for their code and be able to explain their thinking, technical trade-offs, and design decisions.
Applicants should complete coding challenges independently and follow the current instructions provided by HENNGE.
How to Apply for the HENNGE Global Internship Program 2027
The application process involves registration, a coding challenge, and interviews.
Step 1: Register online
Visit the official HENNGE Global Internship Program page and select the application link.
Register for the coding challenge and verify your email address. Choose the pathway you want to apply for when registering.
Step 2: Complete the coding challenge
Solve the coding challenge and submit your work.
The challenge has no time limit, and the screening process does not consider how quickly you complete it.
If you want to apply for both pathways, you must use separate email addresses for the two coding-challenge registrations.
Step 3: Submit your CV and cover letter
Upload your CV and cover letter, and indicate your preferred internship batch or batches.
Your cover letter should explain your experiences, interests, technical background, and reasons for applying. HENNGE advises candidates to provide clear, thoughtful, personal explanations rather than generic applications.
You can review the company’s guide to crafting a strong cover letter.
Your application is complete after you upload the required documents and fill in your batch preferences.
Step 4: Attend the interviews
Candidates who pass the coding challenge and initial screening will proceed to an HR interview, followed by an online interview.
The company will assess your suitability for the programme and your technical potential.
Step 5: Wait for the outcome
HENNGE reviews applications as they arrive. Since placements are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, applying early is important.
The number of available places is limited, and applications may close once all slots have been filled.
Application Deadline
There is no single fixed annual deadline.
HENNGE accepts applications seasonally according to available internship batches. Applicants should check the official website for the current application status and the latest dates.
The company may close applications when all available positions are filled, and some batches may close up to four months before the start date.

Important Things to Know Before Applying
The internship is unpaid. The monthly subsidy is intended to help cover living expenses; it should not be described as a salary or guaranteed cash award.
Accommodation is not specifically provided. The living-expense subsidy covers accommodation costs, and interns choose their own housing.
Airfare and insurance have eligibility conditions. International airfare and medical insurance are not covered for interns already living in Japan. For airfare reimbursement, the official FAQ requires arrival within seven days of the internship start date.
Visa support does not remove visa requirements. Applicants from countries requiring a short-term visa must obtain the appropriate permission to enter Japan.
The programme is on-site. Applicants must be able to travel to Tokyo and attend the fixed schedule.
Selection is competitive. Places are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the company’s screening process.
Applicants can reapply. HENNGE permits repeated applications but recommends waiting 9–12 months after an unsuccessful attempt. A different email address is required for a new coding-challenge registration because each email is treated as one token.
Other roles may be available. HENNGE occasionally advertises internships or part-time opportunities in other business areas. Japanese proficiency is required for those other roles.
