Nigerian law students are being encouraged to participate in Foundation Chambers’ 2025 marine essay competition. The theme, awards, and entry requirements are described in this post. This is for you if you like legal writing and are a law student.
If you’re a Nigerian law student who doesn’t mind writing, this could be a fantastic opportunity to win something more significant than bragging rights. The annual essay competition of Foundation Chambers, which is well-known for having deep roots in maritime law, is now accepting entries.
Although ₦250k is not a small money , let’s face it, it’s not just about the prize money. Additionally, there is the opportunity to intern with the company, which may lead to opportunities outside of the classroom.
Topic for the Foundation Chambers’ 2025 marine essay competition:
“Challenges and Prospects of Maritime Arbitration in Nigeria”
Indeed, it seems like one of those subjects that makes you want to shut down your computer. But don’t worry. If necessary, consult your lecturer, read up on it, and write about what you understand. They are not looking for a SAN’s brief; rather, they are looking for unique, thoughtful work from a dedicated student.
Eligibility for scholarship
Only undergraduate law students are allowed. Doesn’t matter if you’re in 200 level or final year, as long as you haven’t graduated yet, you’re eligible.

Writing Guidelines (Read This Twice)
To avoid missing out because of technical errors, follow these rules:
- Submit your essay as a Word document attached to an email
- Use Times New Roman, font size 12, and double spacing
- Maximum word count: 3,000 words (excluding footnotes and references)
- Use OSCOLA referencing style
- First page must include:
- Essay title
- Your full name
- Phone number
- Word count
