The prestigious Nelson Mandela Essay Prize Competition 2026 is now open for submissions. Organized by the Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) in partnership with Yale University’s Global Justice Program, the University of Lusaka, and the University of Zambia, this annual competition continues Nelson Mandela’s legacy of leadership, justice, and transformative ideas.

Who Can Participate?
- Open to citizens of African countries (with or without a PhD degree)
- Joint submissions by two eligible authors are welcome
- No restriction on academic background — both emerging and established voices are encouraged

- Up to three winning essays will share the prize money

- Essays must be anonymized for blind review (do not include your name on the essay document)
