About African Leadership Academy
African Leadership Academy is an educational institution designed to develop the next generation of African leaders.
At ALA, students are challenged to develop both their academic and leadership potential while living and learning in an intentional community of young people from different African countries and backgrounds.
The Academy’s goal is not simply to find students with excellent grades. It seeks young people with the courage, initiative and drive to make a positive impact, including through innovative ideas and forward-thinking initiatives.
Each year, more than 2,000 young leaders from across Africa apply, while up to 130 students are admitted. ALA’s network now spans 47 African countries.

What Happens After You Apply?
The ALA admissions process follows several stages.
Step 1: Register and Apply Online
Submit your application through the official ALA application platform.
You will receive a confirmation email, followed by updates concerning your application status.
Step 2: Finalist Selection
ALA will review applications and select candidates for the finalist stage.
Applicants should monitor their email to find out whether they have been selected.
Step 3: Finalist Interview
Selected finalists will participate in an interview with the ALA Admissions Team.
Importantly, all finalists can apply for financial aid.
Step 4: Submit Supporting Documents
Applicants who proceed through the process will submit relevant supporting documents, including:

- Letters of recommendation.
Step 5: Admissions Decision
Applicants will receive their final admissions decision by email.
Step 6: Join ALA
Successful students will arrive on the ALA campus in August 2027 and begin their ALA journey.

ALA says community members can nominate high school students as young as 13 years old. The Academy will review nominations and reach out to nominees to encourage them to apply.
