About the Scholarship Program:

The Opekete Foundation, established by the late Mrs. Florence Bamidele Makanjuola (1921-2021), is a testament to her enduring legacy in education and healthcare. With a distinguished career in both teaching and nursing, Mrs. Makanjuola was driven by her unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. Her passion extended beyond her own professional achievements; she was deeply committed to advancing female empowerment, reducing poverty and promoting financial independence, particularly for those from vulnerable and underserved backgrounds.

Having herself been the beneficiary of a scholarship that enabled her to study nursing in the United Kingdom, Mrs. Makanjuola was a strong advocate for developing skilled professionals in education and healthcare. She recognized the critical role these sectors play in economic growth and prosperity, especially in light of the acute shortage of teachers and nurses in Nigeria and across Africa. Her vision continues through the work of the Opekete Foundation, which strives to bridge this gap by investing in the education and training of future leaders in these essential fields. The FBM Scholarship for Women stands as the foundation’s flagship initiative, providing bursaries to women pursuing careers in nursing and teaching, with a special emphasis on those studying in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By supporting women in these critical disciplines, the scholarship aims to empower a new generation of professionals who will contribute to the social and economic development of their communities.

We are therefore thrilled to announce that applications for the prestigious 2025/2026 Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship for Women are now open! This scholarship, established in honor of Florence Bamidele Makanjuola’s enduring commitment to women’s education and empowerment, aims to support exceptional women who are pursuing higher education and aspire to make a significant impact in their communities and beyond.

Benefits of the Scholarship Program:

Secondary School Students

• Maximum of 350,000 per annum for each student.

University Students

• Maximum of 650,000 per annum for each student.

Eligibility Criteria:

Prospective Beneficiaries Must Be:

• A female Nigerian Citizen
• Have gained admission/ or currently enrolled into a public university or Senior Secondary School while applying for this opportunity.
• Applicants must be attending or intending to attend a public or federal government owned Senior Secondary School or University
• Intending and/or willing to study Teaching Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) or Nursing in the University

Academic Qualifications

Secondary School Applicants

• • Minimum of 5 Distinctions (A or B) in English, Mathematics and any other 3 major subjects in Junior WAEC (Secondary applicants)

University Applicants

• • Minimum of 5 Distinctions (A1- B3) in English, Mathematics and any other 3 major subjects in WAEC / NECO at one sitting
• • Meet the required cut-off score in JAMB for the course and school applied to.

Application Deadline:

Application s for the FBM Scholarship for 2025 are open for entries until the 22nd of May, 2026. Early applications are highly encouraged.

Selection

The submissions shall be screened by an independent consultant

Announcement of Awardees

The Announcement of Awardees shall be made in August, 2025
